Staff from the Energy and Climate Change Division (part of the CareTeam) at the University of Southampton are involved in an Innovate UK funded project to Support Independent Living for adults who require it. CareTeam is a collaborative project bringing together Nquiringminds (software developer), Southampton City Council and the University of Southampton. The aim of CareTeam is to provide the necessary digital technology and service to support independent living and help carers support their loved ones more efficiently and effectively.
On the Wednesday 5th of September 2018 at Guildhall Square Southampton, CareTeam is hosting “Care in the Square”. This event is an opportunity to learn about adult care in Southampton and talk to people about ways you can support the persons you care for. CareTeam will give you the opportunity to have hands-on experience of the CareTeam mobile app and the household and personal sensing technologies geared to support independent living. At the event, you will be able to download the CareTeam app and see examples of sensing technologies and how these can be combined to enhance and support adult care. CareTeam members will be available to talk you through the various functions and benefits. Various local and national organisations and teams, relevant to care will also be present to listen to you and provide information. Find the list of confirmed attendees.

Care in the square - CareTeam
We all have people, family and friends who need our care and support. Informal, unpaid carers play an important role in our society and economy. As the currently active informal carers grow older, it is expected that part of the unpaid care they provide will eventually shift to formal care. Carers’ stress and fatigue is likely to lead to an increasing number of informal carers requiring health support from the NHS before the age of 65 compounding the pressure on health services. Such demographic changes and the austerity affecting Local Authority budgets is likely to have a large impact on the quality of life of adults in receipt of care, their families, social care and public health.
